Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
- Cream together 8 tablespoons of butter, 2 cups of sugar, and 3 eggs until light and fluffy.
- Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, beating well.
- In a separate bowl, sift together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon baking soda.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and 1 cup of buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Melt 4 ounces of chocolate and stir into the batter until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the pan from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack.
- Cool completely before frosting.
